At the airport - Słownictwo Przydatne na Lotnisku i krótkie mini dialogi.
First of all, travelling by plane is easy and the signs at the airports are very clear. Some years ago I had a student who was travelling a long distance for the first time in her life, to Australia via London. She was very nervous before the flight, but everything went smoothly including the transfer. What helped, were the dialogues we had practiced together and now, you can find them below.
The dialogues are presented in the sequence you go through at the airport: first check-in , next security check, passport and customs control. The dialogues will be followed by vocabulary lists: airport signs and airport announcements.
We present a couple of mini-dialogues for the most typical situations at the airport.
AT THE CHECK-IN. Odprawa bagażowa.
| You can check-in online before the travel and deliver the baggage at the airport earlier, but if you choose to do it just before the flight, the following dialogue may help you. | |

Please note:
If your baggage is ‘overweight’ or ‘excess’ - it has too many kilograms, over the limit, you can pay an extra charge and keep the extra kilograms.
If you have something valuable that you don’t want to check in and it’s too big for hand luggage, you can always buy an extra seat for your special item. I know somebody who bought a seat for his guitar. J
GOING THROUGH SECURITY. Kontrola bezpieczeństwa.
After checking in , you have to go through security. First, you need to put your electronics and metal objects , e.g. keys, coins and a belt on a special tray and as well containers with liquids, unless they have been checked in. Sometimes you may be asked to take off your shoes.
The dialogue below contains typical instructions from the security officer.

PASSPORT CONTROL AND CUSTOMS. Odprawa paszportowa i celna.
In case of an international flight you need to go through a passport and customs control, depending on the country’s regulation. Please note that some countries do not allow foreign food to enter the country, especially Australia and Chile are particular about it.

IMMIGRATION – FOR TRAVELLERS TO THE US. Rozmowa z urzędnikiem imigracyjnym.
When you are travelling to the US you need to answer detailed questions of the Immigration Officer. They may ask you more personal questions than it is common in other countries. Here is an exemplary dialogue. Luckily, Polish citizens don’t need a visa anymore.
